Board #479: Paper Moon

Another vintage-inspired board today, but a totally different look from yesterday's. More feminine, more glitzy, more urban sophistication. I think the key to a vintage look for your wedding is to update it so that it doesn't look like a themed costume party. Though a flapper wedding could be really fabulous...

Mood: vintage whimsy
Palette: oyster gray, pearl pink

Board #478: What's Old is New

I recently read an article (cannot for the life of me remember where I read it) about the resurgence of vintage style, and the desire for artisan, hand-crafted things, and how almost anywhere you look you'll see anachronistic jumbles of designs and things reminiscent of bygone days. Not that I needed to read an article to tell me this, but it did get me thinking about how this trend is certainly present in the wedding world. That, combined with this film about the inspiring architecture and design firm, Roman & Williams, plus my desire to incorporate Root Liquor into an inspiration board, all led up to today's post. Not everything here comes from the same era or region, but there's a common thread in the palette and feel of each element, and I don't think any of it takes itself too seriously except for that love of hand-crafting and thoughtful design. It's all mostly somewhat masculine, but I think the tiniest bit of blush pink could balance it nicely.

Mood: vintage, vintage, vintage
Palette: caramel, whiskey, leather,

Board #477: Lemon Meringue Pie

This week's inspiration boards use simple palettes of a single color and white - orange and creme, blue and porcelain, lemon yellow and meringue. The elements here are pretty simple, too: bunting and tissue poms, ribbon wands, ruffles and roses. You don't have to reinvent the wheel to have a lovely wedding!

Mood: sweet and sunny
Palette: lemon pie, white meringue

Board #476: China Cabinet

I love the perfect blue found in traditional blue and white china, and that, along with the blue-edged hydrangea in this centerpiece from Martha, inspired today's wedding board. Bring in calligraphy, candlesticks, and a stunning number by Reem Acra, and it's utterly classic and totally gorgeous. Everything you need for something old, something new, and something blue - now what to borrow?

Board #475: Orange Float

How about a little retro for your day? Not that I'm not loving this springtime, but when I saw this photo of an orange cream float on Beth Helmstetter's blog, I could not resist a quick detour into summer. And, if you want to enjoy one of these treats without designing your entire wedding around it, here's a recipe from Country Living. (It really would make a cute party, though.)

Board #474: Hot Pink & India Ink

Can you think of another color that's more fun than hot pink? Pair it with ink black, and it becomes utterly cool, and even a little sexy. I mean, how fabulous would a bride look in Jennifer Behr's sassy headband? This palette certainly lends itself to a more modern look, but here it takes on a vintage/retro vibe.

Board #473: Antique Peach and Blue

Headboards have been a surprising source of inspiration for me lately - further evidence, I guess, that inspiration can be found just about anywhere. This palette of antique peach and faded blue makes for a sweet spring combination, or a soft choice for summer. And I love the floral print! Have any of you found your wedding colors or aesthetic or other inspiration in an unexpected place?
